Neurodevelopmental diagnostic assessments:

How we assess

As part of our neurodevelopmental assessments, we offer the following:

  • A meeting with the child and parents to gather an understanding of current concerns.

  • Completion of questionnaires.

  • A conversation with someone in the school who knows the child well, or a school observation if needed.

  • Administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) with the child, to assess communication, social interaction and play.

  • A developmental diagnostic interview with parents.

  • A cognitive assessment may be recommended.  This is a formal assessment of a child’s strengths and difficulties including intellectual ability, verbal and non-verbal skills, attention, memory and processing speed. A cognitive assessment can be particularly helpful when a child is struggling at school to help determine where support is needed.

  • A written report and feedback session will be provided, incorporating recommendations for the family and school, as required.
